This was a surprising hit for me! When I first started reading, I was really annoyed by Zorian’s personality and was pretty much ready to write off the series until I remembered that he’s 15 years old and not that different from a normal (prickly) teenage boy.
Once you understand that Zorian is truly a tsundere, it became way easier to continue on with the rest of the book and get sucked in. He has his reasons for why he dislikes things, and once you get to know him, it’s easier to see where he’s coming from.
I thought the time loops might get repetitive, but it was engaging every single time. The author skips loops where not much happens of consequence, and the details and conversations we do get are always interesting. I appreciate the thorough world-building and how we slowly fleshed out the side-characters like Zorian’s family and friends.
There were several moments in the book that had me snort, like Zorian finding out he may be soul-bonded to Zach 🧐🏳️🌈? or when he was scheming about making his sister Kirielle meet Novelty (a telepathic spider).
I’m already wanting to read the next book, and this series might end up being one of my all-time favs.
